Where to Recycle and More

Fairfax county officials answered questions on the environment.

County environmental officials answered questions on how best to insulate your attic, where to recycle hardcover books and the complications of recycling plastic in a Thursday chat.

The chat was part of Ask Fairfax!, a feature where residents can interact with county officials in a live chat.

In the chat, Fairfax County Environmental Coordinator Kambiz Agazi told one reader, "... there is no area of the home that is ignored more than the attic. Yet, there is also no place in the home that could benefit more from energy improvements. Inadequate levels of insulation can account for as much as 40 percent of heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer (ref. Department of Energy) due to conduction, convection, and radiation."
