George Mason University Names New President

George Mason University will have a new president in 2012

George Mason University’s Board of Trustees has named Angel Cabrera the university’s new president effective July 2012.

Cabrera, 44, is currently president of the Thunderbird School of Global Management, according to a press release. He will be the school's sixth president.

His predecessor, Alan Merten, announced that he would be retiring earlier this year. Merten's annual salary was $468,000 in 2010, according to a database compiled by the Collegiate Times, Virginia Tech's student newspaper.

Cabrera is a native of Spain. He earned his doctorate from the Georgia Institute of Technology as a Fulbright Scholar. He earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Madrid Polytechnical University.
