Defense Wins It for Robinson Rams Girls

Dhyamond led the Rams with 17 points and spectacular defense

The Robinson Rams girls basketball team didn’t give their opponent a moment to catch their breath at all Monday night.

With only five points on the scoreboard at the end of the first quarter, the South County Stallions were in trouble.  Their frustration was apparent, and the Rams quickly took advantage.  The Robinson girls drew seven fouls from the Stallions in the first half, giving themselves a comfortable 25-12 lead at half-time.

“We were pretty confident,” Crenshaw said.  “I thought we came out strong and played hard every quarter of the game.”

Seeing their foe visibly shaken and vulnerable, the Rams’ confidence was boosted further coming out to the second half.  The Stallions put forth a great effort, but simply weren’t prepared for the struggle of going against an energized and focused Robinson team.

The girls were inspired by their consistent success defensively throughout the game, playing all four quarters with equal tenacity.  The Rams’ determination coming into each quarter made their 53-30 victory Monday night particularly special.

Earlier in the regular season, Robinson head coach T.J. Dade struggled to get his team playing each quarter of their games consistently.  In the first game of the Regionals, the Rams didn’t let him down.

“They played all four quarters, which was a problem in the past,” Dade said.  “I really wanted them to show their potential, and tonight was definitely a step in the right direction.”

Assistant coach Dave Baciocco agreed that the girls came off Monday’s victory closer to being the Rams team they aspired to be.

“After tonight, it’s evident that we are continuing to improve,” Baciocco said.  “We’re going to keep working on the fundamentals going into Wednesday’s game.”

The Robinson girls will play against Stone Bridge Wednesday night at home.
