They say, the school's new vision incorporates both "the Mason idea" and the university’s core characteristics of being "innovative, diverse, entrepreneurial and accessible."

According to a press release issued Thursday, the vision was developed under Cabrera’s leadership with working groups representing stakeholders throughout the university, examining key areas and foundational concepts that form the core of Mason’s identity and strengths.

"The vision encompasses the university’s mission, values and commitments; defines the Mason graduate; brings the Mason motto, 'Freedom and Learning,' to the forefront; and launches the Mason idea," the release stated.

City of Fairfax Mayor Scott Sliverthorne, who attended the ceremony, said Friday on his Facebook page, "Congrats to [Angel Cabrera] on his inaugural as Mason's 6th President. We look forward to an even stronger partnership in the years ahead."

Following the ceremony, the annual, "Mason Day" festivities kicked off outside the Patriot Center.

Mason Day is one of the university’s longest-standing traditions, featuring music, rides and food for the entire GMU community.
