Robinson Educator Wins $2,000 'Super Teacher' Award

Megan Gaeta was recognized.

A special education teacher at recently won the Virginia Lottery Super Teacher Award for her commitment to students.

Megan Gaeta will receive a $2,000 cash prize and an additional $2,000 classroom credit from the Virginia-based Supply Room Companies. The office supply company along with the Virginia Lottery and the Virginia PTA, sponsored the award.

β€œI just wanted to create a purposeful job for my kids,” Gaeta .

The project was one reason she was nominated for the award by her department chair. It provides assistance to community members in need while teaching essential job and life skills to students via service learning. Students purchase toiletries and assemble the items to community-based charities.

In the current school year, students have compiled more than 428 care packages to organizations in need, including Life with Cancer and the Fairfax County Foster Care and Adoption Program.
