Second Student Death this Week for Woodson High Community

School to host parent meeting Wednesday to discuss support for grieving students.

A second Woodson High School student has died this week, according to a letter to parents from principal Jeff Yost.

Out of respect for the family involved, no additional details were provided in the letter. The school will host a special community meeting next week.

On Wednesday morning, 15-year-old Jack Chen of Fairfax Station died after he was struck by a VRE train in Fairfax County.

Friday evening brought Yost's second letter to parents of another tragedy.

"I am saddened to report to you the unexpected death today of one of our eleventh grade students," Yost wrote. "It is difficult for all of us to understand and comprehend the tragedies that have occurred this week."

The school is hosting a community meeting at 7 p.m. March 5, "to give parents an opportunity to learn more about what is being done at the school to support their children during this time of grief; to provide information and resources for parents to use as they help their child; and to provide information about community efforts to build a network of support for our young people."
