Signing Up for the Next Level

Robinson seniors Murach, Connaster and Austin sign letters of intent to play in college

On Wednesday, three Robinson Secondary School student-athletes signed letters of intent to play sports at their respective colleges.

Varsity volleyball senior Tiffany Connaster signed to Temple University, and her teammate, Susie Murach, signed to Wingate University.

It is a huge day for the girls: They have a third-round playoff game tonight.

Golfer Alexandra Austin signed her letter of intent with Radford University at the ceremony.

"These girls are a representation of excellence and an extension of their school and community," said Robinson athletic director Marty Riddle near the end of the ceremony.

The event was held in the Recital Hall at Robinson Secondary. The girls' coaches and parents were on hand to watch the girls sign up for a big step up in their athletic careers.

Murach, who leads the Rams into a regional semifinal matchup against Stone Bridge tonight at Centreville, has already enjoyed an awesome season. She was named the MVP of both the Northern Region and the Concorde District and has racked up a team-best 389 kills so far this season.

Murach has been playing volleyball since she was 10 years old. In addition to playing for the Rams, she's played for a local club team.

Murach isn't the only star for Robinson's volleyball team this year: Connaster was named to the All-Region second team and the Concorde District first team.

"I've been in the whole recruiting process since the beginning of my junior year," said Connaster.  But she decided on Temple after attending the school's camp last summer.

Austin's season ended in October, when she placed 30th overall in the state.  She said she is practicing her swing everyday and anxiously waiting to get through her senior year at Robinson and begin playing for Radford.

"I just want to be there now," said Austin.

She verbally committed to Radford in October.

Austin has played varsity golf at Robinson for all four years of her high school career.

All three athletes said they were very thankful for the help and encouragement from their parents and coaches that helped them get to where they are today.
