Stallion field hockey, football and volleyball results for 9/13-9/20

South County Football (0-3):

South County scored a season high 27 points in their 31-27 September 16 loss at West Potomac (2-1). The Stallions got on the scoreboard in the second quarter when Oren Burks returned an interception 38 yards for a touchdown. Quarterback Shane Foley threw touchdown passes of 55 and 19 yards to wide receivers Andrew Rector and Michael Ferguson.

Still seeking their first win of the season, the Stallions return home this Friday, September 23, after two road games to face T.C. Williams (1-2). South County’s chances look good as T.C. Williams is nursing a two game losing streak and their defense has allowed 106 points in three games this season.

South County Volleyball (6-3):

Trista Barnhardt’s Stallions haven’t lost a match since their September 3 Cassel Invitational contest against Woodson (9-0). The Stallion volleyball squad defeated rival Hayfield (0-5) 3-0 on Wednesday, September 14 and Oakton (6-6) 3-0 on Monday, September 19.

In South County’s match against Hayfield, Kathryn Moore led the team in kills with 10. Allison Bruder and Katherine Gerton both had six while Eva Cruz contributed five. In the team’s contest against Oakton, Moore again led in kills with 11 while Bruder had nine kills and seven digs.

Up next, South County faces Chantilly (7-2), a team they defeated earlier in the season, on Wednesday, September 21. The team will participate in the Titan Clash Tournament held at T.C. Williams High School, on Saturday, September 24.

JV Volleyball (3-1):

The Stallion JV team is 3-1 on the year and enjoyed a three-game win streak, which included wins over Woodbridge, Yorktown and Westfield to begin the season. The team’s first loss of the season came on Monday, September 19 against Oakton.

Their next two matches are on Wednesday, September 21 against Chantilly, and Monday, September 26, against Herndon.

South County Field Hockey (6-2):

South County’s field hockey team is one of the region’s hottest. The team hasn’t lost a match since August 30, and currently owns a three-game win streak. South County’s signature win this season came on Friday, September 16 against previously unbeaten Lake Braddock (7-3), who they defeated 2-0.

In South County’s statement win over Lake Braddock,  Alexis Schramm scored two goals and Kendall Clifton had three saves.

The Stallions host Lee (0-7) on Wednesday, September 21 and travel to Westfield (8-1) on Friday, September 23. Westfield defeated South County 1-0 earlier this month in the Bulldog Tournament.

JV Field Hockey (0-1-3):

Tie games seem to be the theme for South County’s JV field hockey team. After tying Woodson on Tuesday, September 13, the Stallions met the same fate two days later against Lake Braddock. The team will attempt to break the trend against Lee or Westfield this week.
