South County Students Raise Awareness for Hunger

The students made sandwiches for a homeless shelter.

This phrase along with many other inspirational messages were taped onto 500 sandwiches made by 's Key Club. Members met on Saturday, March 3rd to make sandwiches for homeless and impoverished individuals at the .

Bread was layered upon with chicken, turkey, ham, and cheese. Sandwiches were then placed in a plastic bag with an encouraging message taped on to it.

While Key Club members were making sandwiches and inspirational messages, they were also fasting.

Members chose to fast for 12 hours in order to raise awareness for hunger in the United States. Currently, there are over 40 million people in the U.S. who suffer from hunger.  

Kaylyn Duda, South County’s Key Club Secretary, was very troubled by the suffering and poverty, but believed that a positive difference could be made. With the support of the advisors and other officers, the community service project was very successful. 

Their hope is to raise even more awareness and help stop hunger.
