South County Students Recognized at International Conference

Students Natalie Pasquel and Connor Shaffer both took home awards.

South County High School students took home some accolades at the International DECA Competition.

DECA prepares students for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management, according to their website. The nonprofit’s annual conference took place last week in Anaheim, Calif.

There were 41 Fairfax County students who were winners or finalists. Some of from Fairfax County Public Schools were:

  • South County High School Student Natalie Pasquel who won first place in the award for her entry in the Entrepreneurship Participating-Franchise category. Connor Shaffer, also of South County, won the $1,000 NAPA Scholarship.
  • The team of Zach Carter and Carter Niehoff of Lake Braddock Secondary School, who won second place in the Entrepreneurship Innovations Project category.
  • Sam Travis, from Marshall High School, who won second place in the Buying and Merchandising Team category.
