Stallions Beat Chantilly 74-57, Advance to Regional Championship

The winner on Friday goes to the state tournament.

The South County Stallions defeated the Chantilly Chargers 74-57 at home on Tuesday in the second round of the Northern Region Tournament. Tight defense led the South County team to victory, and the Stallions face Woodson for the regional championship game at 6 p.m. Friday at Robinson Secondary School.

South County (7-15 in the regular season) won four out of the last five playoff games. "We had a lot of close-call games in January, and I think the team learned from them," said South County coach Wendell Johnson. "And we've learned the defense we need to have in order to win at this level."

Stallion senior forward Oren Burks got 14 points. "I think we've realized that for the senior this is our last season to play together, and we need to put aside selfish play and win this," he said.
