Lillian Ervin isn’t hard to hear. Be it clarinet, guitar or piano Ervin has been making noises at William Halley Elementary School with her musical skills.
“She’s a good student, but not only that she is great in band,” said Ervin’s band teacher Jessica Garber. Ervin, a sixth grader, is not entering her second year in band. Because of her stellar performance, her teacher asked her to pick up the more difficult bass clarinet.
“At first it was really hard because you had to blow so much harder into it, but it's cool to have a bigger instrument than the other kids,” Ervin said.
Garber picked Ervin to be part of the area honors band this year. “She’ll meet kids she will play with in middle school and get more experience [in the area honors band,]” Garber said.
Ervin is dedicated to her skill. “I try to fit in about four practices a week from four to five so I don’t have any squeaks,” she said.
Ervin isn’t sure what she wants to do once she is older. According to her mother she has contemplated meteorologist, artist and teacher.
