develop their skills, teach them scoring, etc. so that they may play in matches when they are ready. They will be divided into age and skill level groups as appropriate.
JUNIOR STARS** T&Th 4:30-5:30pm
These kids will continue to build on the basic strokes of tennis at the intermediate level. They will drill on the fundamentals to develop consistency and control. Emphasis on footwork also. They will be taught the strategies of singles and doubles so they can participate in league team matches where appropriate.
JUNIOR PERFORMANCE** M,T & Th 3:00-4:30pm
These players goals are to compete in Junior Team Tennis, tournaments, and/or high school tennis. They will focus on solidifying their basic strokes. Emphasis on footwork drills, point building, and match strategies for singles and doubles.
**These levels may participate in NVTL (Wednesday mornings) league matches.
Coaches may reassign players according to ability levels.
TEAM DIRECTOR
Paul Fisher has been directing the Burke Centre Junior Team program since 1989. During that period, many of the juniors have gone on to success at numerous local high schools and eventually, colleges. Many others have learned to enjoy the game of tennis, “the sport of a lifetime”. He also is the Head Coach of the Robinson Tennis Program, coaching both Boys and Girls Teams to 23 district titles, 8 regional championships and state championships in 2006, 2007, & 2008. In addition, the 2001 Boys team went to the Virginia State finals. Also, a number of Robinson players have captured both the VHSL singles and doubles crowns. In addition, he was presented the Jim Vierdieck Award by the Professional Tennis Registry, the world’s largest organization of tennis pros and coaches, as the National High School Tennis Coach of the Year in 2007.
