Local Residents Compete in Boston Marathon

Fairfax Station, Clifton residents compete in Boston Marathon.

It was probably one of the hottest marathons on record, with runners battling unseasonably warm 84-degree heat in April in Boston, but several Fairfax Station and Clifton residents competed at the Boston Marathon on Monday.

Fairfax Station and Clifton residents who ran the marathon, and their times as reported by Boston Marathon officials were:

  • Steven Peterson, 46, official time: 3:25:28
  • Christopher Krug, 46, official time: 3:53:17
  • Diane Masone, 31, official time: 4:02:36
  • Jeff Gilliland, 48, official time: 4:07:05
  • Stephanie Danahy, 55, official time: 4:49:06

Kenyan native Wesley Korir, 29, crossed the finish line first on Monday with a time of 2:12:40. As the winner, Korir received $150,000. News stories noted that he came to the United States to attend college from an impoverished family, and used to run five miles to school each day.
