Fairfax Station Teen Breaks Four Swimming Records

Brandon Fabian is a fish, but he also has career plans outside of the pool.

Watch out Michael Phelps, because Brandon Fabian is at your heels. The 15-year-old Fairfax Station teen has broken four Colonial Swimming League records this summer and is working to shave a second from his freestyle time to make the U.S. National Team.

“I usually listen to music (rap, fast rock) before a meet. It helps get the tempo right for my swim,” said Brandon who swims for the Barrington Blue Fins (and has since he was seven). “I don't like to talk to people because it gets me out of that zone, and then I go as fast as I can. There's not that much that goes into it.”

  • Brandon, a rising sophomore who swims for the South County High School Stallions, is a natural in the water.

“When he was two he wore those personal flotation devices on his arms and he said, ‘I am not going to wear these any more,’ and he took them off and followed his brother Grant around the pool,” said mother Amy Fabian. “I just stood by the side of the pool and bit my nails.”

So, will we see Brandon Fabian standing on a podium one day with an Olympic medal around his neck?

“I'm definitely going to stick with swimming, but I definitely want to be a doctor when I grow up,” said Brandon, adding that he wants to be a sports medicine physician.
