Robinson Falls in Concorde District Championship

17-4 second quarter downfall for Rams

Robinson led the Oakton Cougars after the first quarter Friday night. Unfortunately for the Rams, it was the last time they would hold a lead.

The Rams (16-7) fell to Oakton 47-33 in the Concorde District championship, even with junior Katherine Coyer out for Oakton with an ankle injury. They fell mainly because of Katherine Coyer’s twin, Oakton junior Caroline Coyer.

Caroline Coyer scored a game-high 20 points, 10 of which came in the second quarter, earning MVP honors. Those 10 points were huge in Oakton’s second-quarter run, where they outscored the Rams 17-4.

“It sounds kind of like a broken record from the other night, [we] started settling on the jump shot, triggered their break again,” Robinson coach T.J. Dade said. “They just flipped it on us.

“My disappointment is we don’t learn from our mistakes.”

After halftime, the Cougars succeeded where they have all year, dominating the glass and playing great inside-out defense thanks to sophomore Elizabeth Manner, senior Danielle Davis and Caroline Coyer. Manner finished with 10 points and Davis added seven, including a 3-pointer.

“I thought coming into it, the way the game was going, it was the kind of game I wanted,” Dade said. [Oakton was] a little off in their shooting. So if we could keep it close, keep the score low, I thought we had a real good chance to win it.

“We made some bad decisions on turnovers here and there. The next thing you know, you’re down double digits.”

Junior Megan Green led the team with 10 points. Junior Tyler Hansen added six, including two 3-pointers, four points below her team-leading average. Senior Lauren Denham and junior Brigitte Kuter each scored five.

Robinson will play South County in the first round of the Northern Region tournament.
