Photos: The Beginning of Summer at Lorton's Pirate's Cove Water Park

By the way -- The yellow slide is the fast one.

Want to chill out this summer? The choppy waters and a 300-gallon dumping bucket at Pirates Cove Waterpark in Lorton might just do the trick.

The water park, located at Pohick Bay Regional Park, can get a little crowded on weekends.

"Capacity is 1,230 people in the water. On the weekends we've been at capacity at 12:30 until about 6:00 p.m," said park manager Kevin Casalenuovo. "Our lifeguards get complimented about the way they hover around the water."

In fact, when Patch visited the water park on Sunday, June 30, we witnessed three separate saves. A lifeguard was immediately in the water and lifted the flailing children to safety. And each time the whistle blew, a team of Pirate's Cove lifeguards ran to the scene in red shorts and flip flops. Thankfully, all of the saves were immediate and the kids were fine.

Pirate's Cove Water Park costs $6.75 for seniors and small children and $8 for anyone else over 42 inches tall. It's open until Memorial Day, Monday-Friday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. and 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
