Serve a Village and Northern Virginia Diaper Bank Collaborate

It costs $120/month to provide the diapers /wipes a baby needs. Serve a Village & Northern Virginia Diaper Bank will supply diapers /wipes to organizations that distribute them, free of charge.

This summer Serve a Village and Northern Virginia Diaper Bank will team up with United Bank to hold the “Creating Happiness, One Change at a Time” Diaper Drive. United Bank will be hosting the diaper drive at 20 branch locations in Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. A kickoff event will be held at all participating branches on June 14, 2013 and donations will continue through August 30, 2013.

On average, it costs $120 a month to provide the diapers and wipes that a baby needs. Working together, Serve a Village and Northern Virginia Diaper Bank will supply diapers and wipes to local community service organizations that distribute them, free of charge, to mothers and babies in need. "We hope to collect 200,000 diapers during this drive so that we can begin expanding the Northern Virginia Diaper Bank into Fairfax County, VA." said Chris Troger, Board Chairman of Serve a Village.

Unopened packages of all sizes and brands of wipes, diapers, potty trainers, and overnight diapers for infants and toddlers will be collected. The most requested sizes are sizes four to six. Monetary donations are also welcomed and will be used to purchase diapers and wipes.

Even though there are programs in place to help mothers and children in need, Federal benefits such as Food Stamps, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) cannot be spent on diapers and wipes.
Diapers are a basic need for children, as essential to their health and well-being as food and shelter. Because some mothers are unable to afford diapers they are forced to choose between purchasing diapers and other basic needs such as food, utilities, and child care.

Starting this June you have the opportunity to bring happiness into and make a change in the lives of mothers and babies all throughout the D.C. Metro Area. For more information on this crisis and how you can make a difference click here.
