This park offers the Holy Grail of area parks: Visitors actually feel like they're in the woods, woods so deep they could get lost in them, woods where they are unlikely to see anyone else for long stretches of time. At times, hikers fight through spider webs knotting the trail along the beginnings of the Occoquan River, and even begin to feel like they're exploring some remote stream. Hemlock Overlook Park covers 40o or so acres. It's part of a string of parks along the river, and it offers much pleasant scenery and rugged hiking terrain. The park also offers a wide variety of outdoor programs and serves as an Outdoor Education Center operated by Adventure Links, an ACA-accredited camp, in cooperation with the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority.
