Sandy Run Regional Park
This entrance-point to the Occoquan River features facilities for competitive and recreational sculling and rowing. Sandy Run is used for team training and competition by high schools, colleges, national organizations and similar outlets for competitive "canoe, kayak and crew athletes." According to the park's website, "only shells and other boats authorized by the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority (NVRPA) may be launched from the docks or shoreline of Sandy Run."
George Mason University sponsors races here a few times a year.
The walking and jogging trails which can be accessed at Sandy Run Regional Park are pleasant and quiet on days without competitions. On days with competitions, pets are not allowed at the park.
