RSS is named after James W. Robinson Jr., a U.S. Army sergeant who died an incredibly heroic death in Vietnam in 1966 after saving several American lives, leading his men and bravely attacking the enemy.
According to official Fairfax County statistics, in the 2008 - 2009 school year, Robinson Secondary School had 2,339 students (86.53 percent of the student body) taking general education courses, while 84 students (3 percent) enrolled in English as a second language courses, and 364 students (13.47 percent) enrolled in special education services.
In 2008 - 2009, 18 percent of the school was Asian or Pacific Islander, 5 percent was black, 11 percent was Hispanic and 60 percent was white. Eleven percent of the student body received free or reduced-price meals. The school's student-to-computer ratio was 2.3 to 1 in June, 2010.
