The future looks bright for these South County Stallions
South County’s Oren and Whitney Burks no longer have space on their calendar - literally. They used to keep track of their schedules in a calendar that their parents bought for them, but as the pair grew, more events meant less space. And eventually, the family ditched the physical calendar all together for a more streamlined method. “We used to have a calendar that we entered all of their information into so that we could know where everyone was going to be,” said Orlanda Burks, the children's father. “That got a little difficult because things wouldn’t fit and ink started to bleed on the other pages and we wouldn’t be able see it.” Whitney, a sophomore, was recently named the Patriot District Softball Player of the Year. She’s already …

Tell Us: Should the 'Skins draft a franchise quarterback or fill another need?
The NFL Draft has finally arrived and the Washington Redskins are sitting in the No. 2 spot in the first round. ESPN projects the 'Skins will select Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin, III. If RG3 comes to Washington, it will be the first time the Redskins have drafted a quarterback in the first round since Jason Campbell in 2005. Griffin threw for more than 4,000 yards and rushed for almost 700-yards last season while reaching the end zone 47 times. The last time the Redskins drafted a Heisman Trophy winner was 20-years ago when Desmond Howard joined the team, according to the Washington Times. But to move up in the 2012 NFL Draft, the 'Skins gave up a king’s ransom. To move into the St. Louis Rams’ spot, the Washington Times reported …

A.J. Johnson is one of the top starters for the Patriots while former high school teammate Brandon Kuter gives the team depth out of the bullpen in weekend games against conference opponents.
Updated April 24, 2012 Patriot's pitcher A. J. Johnson improved to 6-4 as Mason beat ODU, 16-6, in Fairfax on Sunday. He works fast and throws a ton of strikes.” Brown also commented on fellow pitcher, junior right-hander Brandon Kuter. “We were looking to find a role for him,” Brown said of Kuter. “He is a guy who will be critical for us if we want to play in June,” he said, speaking of the possibility of winning the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) title. Mason is 13-8 and second in the CAA. ________ A.J. Johnson began his college career in the nation’s capital at George Washington University (GW…

Wednesday's win was the Ram's fifth consecutive.
The Robinson boys tennis team overcame both the Herndon Hornets and cold, rainy game-time conditions to record their fifth consecutive win Wednesday, keeping them atop the Concorde District. Jacob Schreiman finished off the #4 singles, 10 - 0. At #5, senior David Weinberg was close behind winning 10 - 2. Amit Gupta won his #2 singles using his attacking style. Brian Bui won easily at #4. Gallery: The Running Presidents prepare for the Nationals' home opener with a visit to Greenspring.
In their last public appearance before Thursday's home opener, Teddy, Tom and George visited Greenspring Retirement Community in Springfield. Abe had another engagement. The Washington Nationals open their home season at Nationals Park Thursday at 1:05 p.m. against the Cincinnati Reds. The Nats are 4 - 2 on the season, having just won two games in their three game series against the New York Mets. While at Greenspring, the president's ran their race — Tom won — then visited with residents and their guests. In addition to posing for pictures, Teddy, Tom and George flirted with the ladies, played cards with the residents, and shot some pool. Teddy "said" (with a thumbs-up) he's sure to win the president's race in the home opener. It would…
