Top 10 Christmas Cartoons of All Time

Cinema Siren's top picks for 2012.

Last year I offered my top 10 Christmas cartoons for the first time. As an animation art gallery owner of 25 years, and an animation historian, I have been studying and enjoying them a long time.   What an uproar I caused! I got a veritable avalanche of emails about the cartoons I "couldn't possibly overlook." While I stand by all last year's excellent offerings, I do have some amendments this year. Here is the list with some considered additions and subtractions.   The cartoons listed below are all classics and are wonderful opportunities for holiday viewing with friends and family. I’ve seen some of these, but The Nightmare Before Christmas has been a long time favorite of mine because it brings Christmas cheer year round. I haven’t seen a few of these older versions of movies like How the Grinch Stole Christmas from 1966, but I have found that the majority of the cartoons listed here are available through my Blockbuster @Home that I get through DISH. Movie Reviews: 'Hugo,' 'The Muppets,' and 'Arthur Christmas'

Three new films hit the big screen this holiday weekend.

Cinema Siren has good news and great news for this holiday weekend. The good news is there are three wonderful new movies you can see this weekend. The great news is whatever your kids like, there will be something in these three for them! Lately, you may have been thinking "Do I really have to take my precocious 12 year old to see a dubiously scripted vampire movie? Isn't there something I can take them to where I can feel like they're learning something positive?"  Well, movie-loving parents, you're in luck!  With the new releases "The Muppets," "Arthur Christmas," and "Hugo," lessons about self sufficiency, standing up for what's right, and staying connected with your family in a loving way are all featured strongly and well. Tony: funny you should say that, point well taken, and i OBSESS about spoiling. My thought was we adults are sure to go, but teens who might think they're too cool for the Muppets might need incentive--so many folks have redone that song, i figured knowing they'll be putting their spin on it would inspire not disappoint.
