Braddock District Supervisor forum also held Wednesday
Schools and colleges, transportation woes and complaints of unfair treatment out of Richmond took center stage Wednesday evening at a forum for state lawmakers and their political challengers at the Robinson Legislative Forum. Carey Campbell is the independent candidate for the Braddock District Board of Supervisors
When Braddock District Board of Supervisors candidate Carey Campbell joined the Air Force, he was pulled aside by a tech sergeant who noticed the tenor of his radio ready voice and encouraged Campbell to join the American Forces Network. “It was a great job for a young person,” Campbell, 55, said. “I interviewed many of the leading politicians of the day.” Campbell had passed a voice audition many months earlier, and in civilian life had already been a teenage Disc Jockey and news anchor for about 3 to 4 years. He joined the Armed Forces Network and was a broadcast journalist for over 10 years in the 1970s in the network that serves those in the military. Cook, Oleszek, Campbell vying for district supervisor.
The three candidates for Braddock District supervisor faced off Saturday in a debate that descended into a shouting match between independent candidate Carey Campbell and the debate’s host. Host Denny D’Alelio and moderator Ellen Oppenheim warned Campbell multiple times that he was breaking the rules by levying personal attacks against Republican John Cook, whom Campbell repeatedly referred to as a “borrow-and-spend incumbent” and “ideological neo-con.” The most heated moment came about two-thirds into the hour-long debate, when D’Alelio, who held the event on his front lawn in Annandale, said to Campbell, “If you keep talking that way, you will not be here any longer. Candidates for the Braddock District Board of Supervisors race debated Wednesday evening. This was the first of two debates scheduled between Republican incumbent John Cook and Democrat Janet Oleszek. Independent candidate Carey Campbell has also been invited. Additional debates have not been scheduled yet but have been agreed to. Here are some details about the first debate: September 14, 7:30 p.m. at Braddock District Hall at 9002 Burke Lake Drive.
