Northern Virginia Democrats See Turnout As Key to 2013 Governor's Race

ABC News: About half as many Virginians vote in gubernatorial elections as in presidential years.

Anyone familiar with Terry McAuliffe knows he can tell a good story. The one he told Thursday in Arlington, at George Mason's campus as he was wrapping up a five-day tour of the state, was about this past November. It was Election Day, and McAuliffe, at the request of the campaigns of Barack Obama and Tim Kaine, was asked to head to a polling station in Henrico County, where voters were still waiting in a long line as darkness fell. He said he went there and handed out coffee, hot chocolate and hand warmers. And everyone got to vote. And then he asked everyone in the room to mobilize for this year's election. Virginia Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-11th) hosted his 18th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Fete on Friday at the Kena Shriners Temple in Fairfax. The event, which is the largest annual Democratic gathering in Northern Virginia, sparked the 2012 reelection campaign for Connolly. The fete began in 1995 in Connolly's Fairfax home, but the festivities soon outgrew the venue, and the Kena function hall has been home ever since to hundreds of the party faithful. The menu: Strictly Irish—corned beef, cabbage and potatoes and beer.  "President Obama, Tim Kaine and I are all on the same ticket," said Connolly as he showed off new campaign bumper stickers to the audience. Legislators Bulova, Marsden, Peterson Hold Town Hall Meetings

Delegate David Bulova and State Senators Chap Peterson and Dave Marsden will hold town hall meetings in Fairfax this Saturday.  Democrats Bulova, Marsden, and Peterson will provide an overview of issues currently before the General Assembly. Two town meetings will be held. First Town Hall Saturday, Feb. 4 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with Buolva and Peterson at Fairfax City Hall in the council chamber at 10455 Armstrong Street in Fairfax. Second Town Hall Saturday, Feb. 4 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. with Bulova and Marsden at the Fairfax County Government Center at 12000 Government Center Parkway. Schools and colleges, transportation woes and complaints of unfair treatment out of Richmond took center stage Wednesday evening at a forum for state lawmakers and their political challengers at the Robinson Legislative Forum.
