West Potomac Beats South County

The Wolverines' record is now 3-0 after beating the South County Stallions 49-39.

After spending most of the game neck and neck Friday night, the West Potomac Wolverines beat the South County Stallions 49-39 in Lorton. Before the game started, Gerry Pannoni — head coach for South County — said he was concerned about West Potomac's quarterback, Caleb Williams (#17), their running back Demornay Pierson-El (#5) and their kicker Chris Blewitt (#16). "The key is running back Demornay Pierson-El," said Pannoni.  "In their first two games, he made a bunch of big plays," he said. "Pierson-El, the quarterback and the kicker can control the game just by field position." In turn, Wolverines Head Coach Jeremiah Davis had his concerns about South County. "These guys started off 0-3 last year then won 11 straight," said Davis. "So …

Glad to get more details here than the WPost offers. One thing for the writer, and I noticed it last week, too: when a team scores a touchdown they then get a chance to go for what is called an "extra point" or "point after touchdown." Teams can run or kick for the extra point. Most kick. You have been writing that this extra point kick, when successful, is a "field goal." That is incorrect. A …   more ›

Eagle Scouts Help Repair Fairfax Station Railroad Museum Sign

The aging sign was repaired by Boy Scouts last month.

This announcement was submitted by Fairfax Station Railroad Museum Chair Michael Chinworth. A group of Boy Scouts led by Eagle Scout hopeful Edmund Sparrow replaced an aging sign for the Fairfax Station Railroad Museum on the corner of Ox Road and Fairfax Station Road.  Edmund, a senior at Lake Braddock Secondary School, volunteered to undertake the project last month in fulfillment of his Eagle Scout requirement to carry out a community service project that would leave a lasting value. Edmund is a member of Troop 50, sponsored by the men's club of Holy Spirit Parish in Annandale. Fairfax Station Kids Hip Hop To Hanukkah

Hanukkah begins today at sundown

It’s time for Hanukkah, which means it’s time for the latest video from the B-Boyz, three Fairfax Station kids who put up a holiday-themed parody music video on YouTube each year.   “We get to teach a lot of our friends about Hanukkah and it’s fun,” said eight-year-old Max Borenstein, a student at Silverbrook Elementary School.  “We come up with some really creative ideas and we love doing it.” Max and his two brothers, Ben, 13 and Jake, 11, have shot a video for the last four years. The brothers rewrite lyrics of popular songs into Hanukkah-themed music. Hanukkah, which begins today at sundown, is the eight-day Jewish Festival of Lights. This year, the B-Boyz wrote up a parody of “Stereo Hearts” by Adam Levine and Gym Class Heroes. For …
