Romney to Campaign in Fairfax Thursday

GOP presidential nominee to hold rally in Van Dyck Park.

Virginia is living up to its status as a battleground state this week, with appearances from GOP nominee Mitt Romney in Fairfax Thursday and first lady Michelle Obama campaigning in Fredericksburg the same day. A new poll released Tuesday by Gravis Marketing shows Romney with 49 percent of the vote in Virginia and President Barack Obama with 44 percent of the vote. Doors for the campaign rally for Romney will open at 9 a.m. Thursday, and the event is set to begin at 11 a.m. in Van Dyck Park at 3720 Old Lee Highway.  Anyone who wishes to attend the rally will go through airport-like security, according to a notice on the Fairfax County Republican Committee Web site. School Year Kicks Off with 'All Star Lunch Program'

New program teaches Fairfax County students about healthy eating.

Lower calorie counts, reduced sodium and saturated fats, and more fruits and vegetables are some of the changes Fairfax County Public Schools students will find when they return to school next month. The system's changes to its school lunch program come with new federal nutrition standards being implemented this fall in schools across the country, the largest reform of national lunch and breakfast programs in 15 years. The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, part of First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move!" campaign, also includes changes to school breakfast programs during the 2013-2014 school year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Lottery for White House Easter Egg Roll Starts Right After Midnight

Theme for April 25th event to be 'Get Up and Go' in keeping with first lady's health initiatives

Want to take your kids to the White House Easter Egg Roll this year? You'll have to enter an online lottery for free tickets, starting at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. The event is open to children ages 12 and younger, and their families. To enter the lottery, visit rec.gov. In keeping with Michelle Obama's healthy kids initiatives, the White House Easter Egg Roll will have the theme "Get Up and Go" this year. The event will feature live music, sports courts, cooking stations, storytelling and Easter egg rolling on the White House South Lawn.
