Connolly Pays Tribute to Those Killed in Arizona

Congressman expresses concern over heated political rhetoric

U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly (D) joined today with a bipartisan majority in the U.S. House of Representatives to pay tribute to those who were killed and injured in the tragedy in Arizona Saturday that killed six, including a federal judge, and injured 14 others, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.)  In his statement to the House, Connolly noted, “Our primary concern at this moment must be with the victims and their families and friends.”  But he also cited his concern that “political rhetoric has become grossly overheated,” and said, “Absolutely, we must preserve each person’s fundamental First Amendment rights, but can we not agree that we ought to disagree in a more agreeable fashion?”  Connolly’s statement on H.R. 32, expressing the…
