Supervisor Pat Herrity Delivers His State of the County Address

A look ahead at transportation, parks, education and more.

Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity delivered his State of the County address Tuesday. Here it is, in its entirety, courtesy of Supervisor Herrity: Looking Back 2012 was a year full of surprises, some good, some not so good. With the backdrop of the Presidential and federal elections many of the issues raised at the national level mirrored those that we at the County had to deal with; namely our fiscal situation, regulatory policies, and infrastructure. 2012 was also a year of surprises for me personally. As I approach the one year anniversary of my open heart surgery I am grateful to have made a full and speedy recovery, to be here and to be able to continue to serve you. As we enter 2013 and look ahead to the challenges facing us…

The Fix to Route 286: Solutions to Fairfax County Parkway Problems

By Supervisor Pat Herrity

We have had some successes in improving parts of the Parkway (completing the full Parkway repaving, the Fair Lakes Interchange project, and converting the Parkway to a primary road), but even with these improvements, the Parkway is experiencing significant congestion. In order to get in front of the problem and before we wake up and find the Parkway as congested as I-66, I have asked the Board of Supervisors at today’s meeting to request the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) conduct a Corridor Improvement Study (CIS). A CIS will provide a comprehensive look at what improvements need to be made to the Parkway in order to keep up with increased use.  The study will outline short and long term solutions, examine various methods for…

Delegate Tim Hugo (R-40th) has called a meeting of concerned community members, Fairfax County Public Schools, the Virginia Department of Transportation, Fairfax County Police and local politicians to discuss the loss of the wink-o-matic safety signal at the Braddock Road entrance to Willow Springs Elementary School. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept, 6, at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Residents noticed the safety lights missing from the intersection just week's before the start of school, according to the delegate's staff. It is not yet clear who ordered them removed. In a letter inviting leaders to the meeting, Del. Hugo said, "...many of you are aware, the removal of the 'wink-o-matic' lights have resulted in the school’s …

Supervisor Herrity: Dulles Rail Phase II Fails as Transportation Project

Herrity's 'State of the District' address included transportation, homeowner taxes, government regulation, jobs and the future of the Fairfax County Parkway.

"Phase II of Dulles Rail fails miserably as a transportation project," Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity told about 50 people gathered in the West Springfield District Government Office auditorium one day last week, for his annual State of the Distric address. This spring the Fairfax County and Loudoun County boards of supervisors must decide whether to opt in or opt out of Phase II of the Dulles Rail Project. Herrity warned that Fairfax County is not ready for that vote. "Rail through Tysons past the airport and into Loudoun is the largest public works project in the history of the Commonwealth, and it has significant financial implications to the counties, their residents and businesses, and the users of the Dulles Toll Road" …

News Flash- the emperor has no clothes and Pat Herrity is saying so. Thank you Mr. Herrity. It is refreshing to hear. Local and state governments should not even consider spending on a project that was given a failing grade in the transportation category by USDOT and has never even been studied to demonstrate financial feasibility, we ought to smell a rat. This rail scheme has been pumped up by …   more ›
