We're not sure if you can get a table on Valentine's Day (it can't hurt to call and try), but we can report on the menu for the increasingly popular Trummer's on Main restaurant in Clifton. (And in other good news, the restaurant recently received a letter of congratulations from Sen. Mark Warner on their accolades from Washingtonian readers.) The cost is $78 for the special dinner and the Valentine's Day menu is extended through Friday. Kären Rasmussen and Barb Brehm, both longtime Fairfax County residents, attempted to apply for a marriage license at the Fairfax County Courthouse on Valentine's Day.
Annandale residents Kären Rasmussen and Barb Brehm didn't walk into the Fairfax County Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon with high hopes. They knew Virginia law denies same-sex couples the right to marry and, despite the fact the partners have committed themselves to each other for the past 27 years, Valentine's Day proved no exception. Fairfax Circuit Court Clerk John Frey met Rasmussen and Brehm in the lobby of the courthouse and escorted them to a conference room. The women filled out paperwork necessary to obtain a marriage certificate and Frey provided a letter explaining why state law would not permit him to issue one. Adding a personal touch to this holiday while saving a little money in return
I overheard my nine year-old son on the phone the other day talking to my mother and giving her his “wish list” for Valentine’s Day. It consisted of about five different Lego sets. He then hung up and preceded to tell me he wanted some Xbox games and a DVD movie, and with the money he would be getting from his other grandparents, he would buy some iPod apps. My daughter then piped in that she would like a lady bug and a purple dog stuffed animal, of course dressed in the latest lady bug and glamour dog fashions.
