Northern Virginia Democrats See Turnout As Key to 2013 Governor's Race

ABC News: About half as many Virginians vote in gubernatorial elections as in presidential years.

Anyone familiar with Terry McAuliffe knows he can tell a good story. The one he told Thursday in Arlington, at George Mason's campus as he was wrapping up a five-day tour of the state, was about this past November. It was Election Day, and McAuliffe, at the request of the campaigns of Barack Obama and Tim Kaine, was asked to head to a polling station in Henrico County, where voters were still waiting in a long line as darkness fell. Democrats: 'We Have a Lot of Fight Still in Us'

Virginia senators say GOP redistricting plan is unconstitutional; Republican legislators say proposal helps the state better comply with the Voting Rights Act.

By Mark Robinson, Capital News Service Virginia Democrats continued to call a Republican-backed plan to redistrict the state's Senate seats unconstitutional on Wednesday — but GOP leaders say the measure could actually help the Commonwealth better comply with the federal Voting Rights Act. After Republicans narrowly passed a bill Monday that included an amendment to redraw the lines of several state senate districts, the result of which in many cases was more seats with GOP-leaning voters, Democrats took to the Senate floor Tuesday to blast the measure, calling it unconstitutional.  In remarks on the Senate floor on Monday, the bill's sponsor, Sen. Herring Elected Democratic Party of Virginia Chairwoman

Herring represents central and west Alexandria in the state House of Delegates.

Charniele Herring, the state delegate whose district includes West End Alexandria, was selected Saturday to lead the Democratic Party of Virginia. Herring was voted into the top spot during the party’s Central Committee meeting Saturday morning in Williamsburg. She released the following statement Saturday: "I am humbled by the strength and diversity of Virginia Democrats," she said. "I look forward to fighting every day to ensure we continue to elect Democrats here in this great Commonwealth." Outgoing party Chairman Brian Moran announced his resignation last month. Democrats Open 'Victory' Office for Kaine Saturday in Fairfax Station

Campaign office is one of three for Kaine in Fairfax County. Also serves as campaign HQ for other local Democrats running for election.

Local Democrats gathered Saturday in Fairfax Station to hold a grand opening for a campaign office for Virginia Victory 2012 to support the Senate campaign of former Gov. Tim Kaine. Virginia Victory 2012 supports the campaigns of local Democrats as well. Kaine is running against Republican George Allen, also a former governor, in a race for the U.S. Senate. Kaine's Virginia Victory 2012's headquarters office is located at 5914 N. Kings Highway across the street from the Huntington Metro. A grand opening for an Oakton campaign office is set for Saturday, Sept. 15. Congressman Gerry Connolly and state Sen. George Barker stopped by Saturday for the grand opening of the Fairfax Station office. The office is located at 5618-C Ox Road in Fairfax…
