Governor, I don’t doubt that there will be some difficulty and setbacks in Virginia over sequestration but to say that it would “put Virginia into recession” is over the top. Where are the adults in this conversation?

I'm late to this party, but it is all about how much “pain” the Obama administration can inflict on the American public to get his way. In the end the TSA will have 5% more money and 8% fewer flights. And we, the traveling American public, will be victims of bad leadership in the administration.

Julian Kernes, You nailed it! This is a perfect example of why Congress has such a low approval rate. The names and current addresses of those in Congress who voted for this legislation at the time should be provided so the American People can contact them. I'd like to hear their justification. Further, until Congressman Connolly can justify those losses I would strongly suggest he drop his efforts regarding the suspension of Saturday delivery.

In all respect to Congressman Connolly's efforts, what the American People cannot sustain are losses of $25.0 million a day. This is the real priority here. What Congressman Connolly needs to be asking is how those losses can be stopped? He should be looking at the same financial information that Postmaster Donahoe is looking at. The American People cannot justify Congress throwing money at a losing cause, regardless of the mandate. To stand on the "Mandate" is beyond reality.

'It could mean 200,000 defense-related job losses in the Commonwealth, widespread furloughs and program cuts." I disagree with that. I do agree with the comments: “ Prepare for the worst, hope for the best - whether you're a business, a government or an individual," One should always do that at any given time. As for the potential of government furloughs, welcome to the club. Maybe it is time that government employees felt the pain. After all Obama continues to campaign that the "sky is falling". Just as he and congress set up Sequestration to do when they past the legislation. Obama threaten to veto any efforts to change what he signed. Careful what you wish for.

Virginia, You hit the nail on the head. .. “burden of bureaucratic blundering....huge numbers of school employees who are NOT in the classrooms teaching....There will always be children who fail to learn.... Students have to be eager and willing to learn....When the culture dictates to be popular you can't have good grades....etc.”
This last one really gets to me. This is cultural. Where are the parents? When there isn't both a mother and father in the child's life there is a big chance of failure. I don’t know a way to fix that. It has to be done by responsible adults within the community. Not teachers, police, lawyers….. The community has to want success for their kids and are willing to make it happen. Didn’t someone write a book, “It takes a community”.

    Thanks for being a teacher.

After all of the above comments I doubt if anyone will read this. But here goes: There is way too much to be done in too short a period of time. There also are way too many nuts and screws being pushed around for "statical and analytical” reasons. All of these crazy requirements need to cut back with more focus on the students. A simple answer is to extend the school year giving more hours to get the job done. That does not mean throwing more dollars at salaries. I would have loved to have had a job where I had two months vacation plus all of the holidays and "breaks". But that is not the real world. I love teachers. The future of America is in their hands. Change the way they get it done. Take the pressure off.

This is a little confusing."Increasing general sales tax 0.3 percent" What will the final sale tax rate be? Is that a 6.5% or 5.15 tax rate?

Johnny one note.....tax the rich (he has done that) pay there fair share (there are millions who scam the system and pay nothing, Thank You President Johnson) Obama set up the sequestration, and threaten to veto any legislation that tried to change it. This will not be anywhere near as bad as he is trying to make it out to be. All of those government workers who have to take a few days off ...welcome to the club! But don't worry, enjoy the time off. In the end you will get paid anyway and not have to make up the lost time!
