Done! We highlighted the Clarendon Moms Easter post in this column not long ago, if I recall correctly.

ReplyArlingtonians for Sensible Transit, or AST, which opposes the streetcar, issued this statement/bullet points Friday evening:
· AST may have more to say when we find out FTA's specific reasons why they declined to fund this project, but
· We know they decided not to fund it
· We know they decided to fund other projects around the country
· This is just the latest wake up call and negative assessment of this project coming on the heels of the $1 million superstop fiasco
· The superstop went 100% over budget
· The superstop is one of 24 stops on the proposed streetcar line
· If the streetcar goes 100% over budget, it will cost 1/2 billion dollars
· This is just the latest warning signal to Arlington that it is time to hit the pause button on the streetcar just like they had to hit the pause botton on the superstop, and
· commission an independent cost benefit analysis of this project -

ReplyArlington Public Schools spokesman Frank Bellavia sent this information this morning:
FLES instruction in APS ranges from 90-120 minutes per week, whereas in FCPS students have world language for a weekly total of 60 minutes.
Tuckahoe students do not receive FLES instruction. As a result, they are not eligible to participate in the 6th grade transitional Spanish class as are FLES students who also meet the on grade level reading requirement. As a result, Tuckahoe students (and others in the county who do not have FLES or Immersion) have to wait participate in world language study until 7th grade.
The World Language citizen's Advisory Committee report included information about the inequity of FLES and how students at any school without FLES are negatively impacted by the lack of World Language. Obviously, we are concerned about this problem.
As I mentioned earlier, the superintendent wants to ad FLES but with the shortfall this year, there is no money to implement it while keeping class sizes low.

Thanks. It's always tough with these kinds of stories, where people literally talk about dozens and dozens of different topics, to choose what and how much to include about each.

Hi - No, the competition is open to anyone. There are certain requirements that sort of limit that to the greater Washington area — those who advance, for instance, must be able to meet with their mentors and complete other programming — but there's no set boundary defining who can participate. Hope that helps!

ReplyWe had a reader questions about the "affordable" units. Per the county's agreement with the developer, the 11 committed affordable units would be considered affordable to individuals and families making up to 60 percent of the area median income — that's $64,500 for a family of four. Find the complete income guidelines here: http://patch.com/bvepW

The only thing preventing a Vegas BRT photo on this site is you: Anyone can blog for Patch. Those posts are separate from news and appear in the Local Voices column on the front page (if they are featured, that is; if not, they still appear in our list of blog posts accessible from the front page).
To contribute, click on "Start a blog" on the home page and you can write all you'd like about the Vegas system, which I'm sure will be well-sourced with links and include a photo.
I should point out that just because you disagree with the subject matter of a news story, that doesn't make it biased. You're basically asking me to legitimize your argument, which I'm not comfortable doing at this point. That's not to say I won't learn things that make me change my mind. Also, we have printed a great deal of comments and opinions that support BRT over a streetcar.
Finally, I'm going to have to ask our tech team to start monitoring for duplicate accounts again. Please, let's be adults.
