Email: timothy.follos@patch.com
Hometown: Wilmington, N.Y.

A native of the Adirondack Mountains in far northern New York, Tim is a third-generation writer who published some of his first pieces as a kid in the Blue Bomber Times.

In 2002 Tim moved to Washington, D.C. to attend college and in 2003 he began working for Express, a D.C. daily newspaper. Most of Tim's work between 2003 and 2010 appeared in Express or on its affiliated websites.

Tim's work has also appeared in the Onion, the Georgetown Voice and in other print and online sources.

Tim is the former Sports Editor of the Lake Placid News and of the Adirondack Daily Enterprise. He was an editorial aide at Express from 2005-2007.

Tim is currently working on two books. The first, "Obey Your Author: The Biography of Ron Bercume," is a stranger-than-fiction true story about a happily married, reasonably well-adjusted graphic designer facing onerous tax payments.

The second book is a long-anticipated (by him) tome tentatively titled "The Unfiltered Follos" — a collection of his interviews with the likes of Pete Seeger, Bill Cosby, Lois Lowry, Ice Cube, Ani DiFranco, Billy Bragg, Mark Arm, Jarobi White, Tom Morello, Art Spiegelman, Michael Barone, Jim Lehrer, Jane Mayer, Richard Russo, Arto Monaco and Stevie Capozio.

Among his greatest professional accomplishments is his 2007 interview with Bob Novak.

Your Beliefs

At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.

Politics
The following table of presidential preferences tells the tale of my political evolution:
'88: Bush
'92: Bush
'96: Dole
'00: Harry Browne (Libertarian)
'04: Kerry
'08: Obama
I am a registered Republican, but you could call me a "George W. Bush Democrat," so appalled was I by both the cavalier nature and the profligacy of the previous administration.

I studied political philosophy and political science in college and I can certainly see the merits of both the liberal and the conservative political philosophical traditions.

I've worked for both the government and for government contractors and these experiences made me exceedingly distrustful of government spending.

I still like ol' Barrack "Rorschach" Obama. I see him as a pragmatic moderate.

Ultimately, I'd like to be known as a Roy Holzer or Frances Walton Republican.

Beyond those evergreen topics, I don't necessarily know the hot-button local issues at this point; I've only been on the beat for two months.
