3 Victims of Spain Train Wreck from St. Mary of Sorrows in Fairfax

Among the 80 people killed in thetrain wreck in Spain caught on a chilling video Wednesday was one American, Ana-Maria Cordoba, a member of St. Mary of Sorrows Parish in Fairfax.

The Catholic News Service reported the death on Thursday. Mrs. Cordoba had been traveling with her husband, Philippe, and daughter, Christina, a rising senior at Bishop O'Connell High School in Arlington, the news service reported.

Philippe and Christina Cordoba were listed in stable condition at the local hospital, the news service reported, adding that the family members were en route to meet the Cordoba's son, Santiago, who had just completed a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.

Mrs. Cordoba was a benefits specialist for Virginia's Arlington Diocese, Catholic News reported.

The train wrecked Wednesday night in the northwestern Spanish town of Santiago de Compostela. Video of the train wreck shows in racing into view, and derailing while taking a curve.

The cars crashed into a wall of concreted and flipped onto their sides while skidding along the tracks.

Deputy State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf has confirmed that one American was killed and at least five U.S. citizens were injured, according to CNN.
